You’re thinking about what classes to take in the Fall — are you interested in Latin America?

In the Program for Latin American, Latino & Caribbean Studies (LALACS), students prepare to enter a complex global community.

The minor is comprised of 6 classes, taken across a number of departments.  The 2 required courses are His 160 Introduction to Latin American History and one language class–you have to complete at least the 200-level in Spanish or French.

Some of our courses include:  Globalization, Liberation Theology in the 2/3 World, Mayan Art and Architecture, African Culture in Latin America and the Caribbean, Performance in the Americas.  And that’s just a start!  You’re reading our blog.  Check out our academic web page (https://gustavus.edu/lalacs/.)

Whether you are planning to work with an organization focused on social justice in Latin America or the Caribbean, in business in Latin America, or with Latino students in the U.S., you will benefit from a deeper understanding of Latin America’s religious traditions, geography, political history, economic issues, indigenous past, cultural heritage and relations with the United States.

Our students are, by definition, curious, complex, passionate, and involved.  They embody the best of Gustavus: they have both a sophisticated perspective on international issues and a passion for social justice.  Join us!
